Hey there, I'm Cat McDougald, the heart and soul behind "Whisk and Wander." This blog is more than just a collection of recipes; it's a canvas where I paint my experiences, tips, and tricks for the everyday chef, soon-to-be-wed couples, the homemade party planner, the sleepy teachers and those seeking a deeper connection with God.
The primary goal of "Whisk and Wander" is to empower regular people to cook and bake like professionals without the frustration and attempt DIY projects (for all things) with ease and no fear. I'm here to guide you through home with easy-to-follow techniques, trends to help you save, tools to help with your classroom & kids and weave personal stories that detail my very real struggle and walk with our Heavenly Father.
What sets me apart is that I'm not classically trained—I'm self-taught, just like many of you. While I grew up in a restaurant, most of my training comes from the question that is ages old: “what’s for dinner?” Tired of the same old, same old, I began diving into vintage cookbooks and learning techniques over the phone with my Dad. Once I moved into a home with my husband (then he was just a boyfriend) I really got serious about learning all of my Dad’s knowledge, while doing it all on a budget. I made a promise to my father before he passed that I would never be the damsel in distress, and I made it my mission to learn how to do as much around the house as I could. Whether I am whipping up a batch of my famous Holy Rolls or pressure washing the skylights, I have learned to do it all with no fear, but gratitude. It’s my mission to build a community online for women to do the same!
"Where there is a cutting board, there is community." Pretty much sums up how I feel about the kitchen. And I am here to kick down all the beliefs that you need to have an aesthetically pleasing home with all the right appliances and all the right tools to do the things you see other doing online. The reality is, anyone can do anything they want to, with a little elbow grease and a few dashes of Jesus, we are all unstoppable!
Beyond the kitchen, I'm the proud mom of Remmy, aka Wee-man, a 10-year-old dachshund and we (yes, Remmy is the official test kitchen manager) have spent the last four years perfecting a cinnamon roll recipe, I call them my Holy Rolls! In all those trials and tests to find the best way to make these rolls I discovered that my hearts truest desire is to be in a kitchen somewhere, covered in flour, with a cold Diet Coke and some Brandon Lake playing through the speakers. It is my hope that one day I will get there, with your help!
So, whatever you are here for, I thank you! One day I will look back on this and remember that these recipes were the result of many tears and late night prayers for clarity. Whatever it is you’re going through, wherever you are in this life, it is only going to get better from here!
with sprinkles,
Cat
